This conceptual project sought to regenerate a forgotten part of East London docklands. Situated opposite the Millennium Dome on the northern edge of the River Thames, the existing site’s character is a rich example of industrial dockland London. The proposal was to create new education and art exhibition spaces, arranged around the principal theatre.

The cube shape of the theatre was inspired by the pure form of the Millennium Dome opposite, with the idea that both could complement one another; almost acting like urban siblings. The rich palette of existing materials found on the site inspired the use of corten steel. The deep colours and textural quality of the rusty steel address the harsher conditions of a dockland context.
